Born in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1997, Romain Jaccoud lives and works in Paris.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and in Film History and Aesthetics from the University of Lausanne and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, he joined the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During this program, he studied in the workshops of Sylvie Fanchon, Bernard Piffaretti, and Dominique Figarella. He spent a study period at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. He presented his diploma exhibition Guilty Pleasure in October 2021 and received the DNSAP. Upon graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts, he wrote, directed, and self-produced his first short film titled Brandon Roi, which was selected for the Locarno Film Festival in the Pardo di Domani competition, where it was publicly screened for the first time in August 2022. At the same time, he exhibited his painting Eat me in the space of the Loevenbruck gallery in Paris alongside works by Steven Parrino and Michel Parmentier.

In his work, Romain Jaccoud uses and diverts signs as well as techniques from advertising design and cinema. Through the creation and arrangement of forms, he assembles, creates, and deconstructs elements drawn from commercial language and the mass entertainment industry. His works offer samples of logos and letters, materials and colors that dissolve—flames, hearts, stars.

His film Brandon Roi explores the representation of a phantasmatic masculinity through an intense and instinctual narrative. This narrative aligns with the artist’s ongoing pictorial practice, in which he is constantly searching for a state of submission for both his body and those of the heroes in the story. Romain Jaccoud thus highlights gestures that testify to the toxicity of the signs and symbols with which he dangerously plays. By developing a repertoire mainly composed of ambiguous, artificial, and metastatic elements, he stages a general state of frustration within a war of signs where everything can explode.

Dans son travail, Romain Jaccoud utilise et détourne des signes ainsi que des techniques issus du design publicitaire et du cinéma. Par la création et la mise en espace de formes, il se charge d’as-sembler, de créer et de déconstruire des éléments tirés du langage commercial et de l’industrie du divertissement de masse. Ses œuvres proposent des échantillons de logos et de lettres, de supports et de couleurs qui se dissolvent -flammes, cœurs, étoiles.

Son film Brandon Roi met en tension la représentation d’une masculinité fantasmatique par le biais d’un récit pulsionnel et intense. Ce dernier s’inscrit dans la poursuite de la pratique picturale de l’artiste, lequel est en constante recherche d’un état de soumission tant de son corps que de ceux des héros du récit. Romain Jaccoud met ainsi en exergue des gestes témoignant de la toxicité des signes et des symboles avec lesquels il joue dange-reusement. En développant un répertoire constitué principalement d’éléments ambigus, factices et métastatiques, Il met en scène un état de frustration général, au sein d’une guerre des signes où tout peut exploser.
