Born in 1991 in São Paulo, Brazil, Lucas Fernando Rubly creates introspective, contemplative paintings that explore the gradual disintegration of landscapes, ecologies, and built environments in Brazil. Working with muted palettes and subtle, delicate brushwork, he depicts half-remembered scenes—crumbling colonial façades, collapsing sandcastles, faded botanical forms, and fragile structures—that evoke the slow erosion of place, memory, and cultural continuity.

Rubly’s work exists in a space between figuration and abstraction, informed by the legacy of Brazilian modernists such as Alfredo Volpi and the refined tonal sensibility of his mentor Paulo Pasta. As the artist notes, he is drawn to things that “do not last long, that exist in silence.” Each painting becomes an attempt, despite the awareness of inevitable loss, to give fragile, dust-like matter a sense of presence and endurance, offering a subtle resistance to speed, monumentalism, and disappearance.

Né en 1991 à São Paulo, au Brésil, Lucas Fernando Rubly réalise des peintures introspectives et contemplatives qui explorent la lente dégradation des paysages, des écosystèmes et des environnements construits au Brésil. Travaillant avec des palettes atténuées et une touche délicate, il représente des scènes à demi remémorées: façades coloniales en ruine, châteaux de sable qui s’effondrent, formes botaniques fanées ou structures fragiles. Ces images évoquent l’érosion progressive des lieux, de la mémoire et de la continuité culturelle.

Le travail de Rubly se situe à la frontière entre figuration et abstraction. Il s’inscrit dans l’héritage des modernistes brésiliens comme Alfredo Volpi, ainsi que dans la sensibilité tonale raffinée de son mentor Paulo Pasta. Comme l’explique l’artiste, il est attiré par les choses « qui ne durent pas longtemps et qui existent dans le silence ». Chaque peinture constitue ainsi une tentative, malgré la conscience d’une perte inévitable, de donner à une matière fragile et presque immatérielle une forme de présence et de durée, proposant une résistance discrète à la vitesse, au monumental et à la disparition.
